snowed in.

so as of right now... 8:08pm on a Monday evening in a little town outside of Boston.... I am not heading back to California in the next day, or two.  Virgin so graciously canceled my flight that was supposed to leave this time tomorrow and now I have been here, on hold for about an hour and a half because just everyone and their mom is also on hold or speaking with a Virgin agent trying to get their buns out of Boston.
Here is to wishing....

my first snow day!

This morning due to the large storm that hit last night, most of the school's were closed for a SNOW DAY! We decided to take advantage of our first snow day and play in the snow and freeze our little buns off! Great first day of our trip, looking forward to doing some more exploring tomorrow.

Twenty-Two and a half

So let's just go back in time a day, shall we? I didn't get a chance to post this because I was traveling all day but now that I have arrived in Boston, I can post this.. SO let's just pretend that it was yesterday.. and here we go

Today I am 22 ½. A lot has happened in the past year, and even the past six months that it really blows my mind. This time last year I was getting ready to start my last semester of college and today I am on a plane flying to Boston with some friends.
Thinking about it, here is a list of things I have completed in this short amount of time.
me in my prime of my twenty second year
  • graduated from college
  • traveled across Europe for two months
  • moved home
  • went wakeboarding for the first time
  • turned 22
  • coached high school girls field hockey
  • went to my first pro football game
  • made new friends
  • …and got rid of the bad friends
  • was a date to a friend from high school’s army ball
  • crashed a home owners association dinner for a beach house community
  • went to tahoe.. twice
  • rang in the new year with my friends from LA in SF
  • and now here I am heading to Boston

I am really grateful for every moment that has happened, good or bad because even though I did not appreciate the bad as it happened, I am glad it happened because it prepared me for even more to come and I am ready to take on the world.
Be sure to keep checking back as I am going to be updating my Boston trip! :]

cookie monster

Ok my friends, there is something you should know about me... I am a little cookie monster. And a french fry monster but that is not important right now. What is important is that I love, love, love cookies. Especially when they are warm and gooey. So what else would a cookie monster crave, but a pizookie from BJ's Brewhouse. OM.nom.nom! Basically, a pizookie is a little piece of heaven. It is a warm cookie that is cooked and then pulled out of the oven right away and then topped with a scoop of ice cream and then brought straight to your table.
Go ahead and drool. I am.

surf's up!

So now that you have seen my snow pictures... it's time to head back to the beach! This time it was time for a surf session. Not for me this time, the water was way too cold but the boys got their boards and wet suits and were ready for action. I decided to stay and be the designated photographer and stay dry and catch some sun. The waves were huge as it is almost time for Mavericks, one of the big surf competitions. Those waves can get up past 40 feet, the ones we were dealing with her only about 8 - 10. Hah, only. Anyways, here are some pictures I snapped while they tried to ride these crazy waves.

couture skiing

What's not to love about a California winter? You can head to the beach one day and then head to the snow the next. After my adventure to the beach I unpacked, repacked and then headed to the snow! We left in the morning and made it just in time to catch the half-day pass. We had a great day on the mountain and got ourselves back into the swing of it. The best part about my ski outfit, is my Juicy Couture goggles which I oh so luckily received for Christmas. I was so excited to wear them. DEFS, the highlight of my trip! Anyways, then we drove for about thirty minutes and got to the California/Nevada state line and checked into our hotel. We had some dinner at this amazing pizza place and then headed over to the casino for a little gamble. I was playing on the slot machine for awhile {getting the free drinks :) hehe} and then we decided to play a little roulette and on my last turn, I won! So I took my chips and ran straight to cash out :) Then we decided to head back to the room, have some hot chocolate and call it a night. In the morning we checked out and then hit the slopes to get a full day in! At this resort you had to take a gondola up to the mountain to get to all the lifts. Then when we were all beat and tired and the lifts closed, we headed back down and drove home. It was a wonderful little ski trip and my muscles are still so sore. Here are some photos I took, enjoy! :)

clam chowder scavenger hunt

When there is nothing but blue sky and a bright sun beaming down on your face in the middle of January, you know this must be taken advantage of. Quickly I decided it was a beach day. I grabbed my towel and my new camera {sadly, mine decided to die on new years' eve :[ r.i.p} and jumped in the car and headed down to Carmel. It was the perfect day for the beach, no traces of fog and no wind just a little breeze to keep you on your toes. We stayed to watch a beautiful sunset, then headed over to Fisherman's Wharf over in Monterey with only one thing on our mind.... clam chowder!!!!

There are tons of little shops and restaurants along the pier and for lucky for us because each restaurant competes with one another and claim to have "the best clam chowder." They all set up stations outside their restaurant and offer you a small sample of their delicious-ness and possibly a coupon for an appetizer.  We walked along the pier trying all the samples, discussing and dissecting every little detail of this delicious soup. We finally found the perfect one we all agreed on. It was the most amazing little restaurant I have ever seen, in addition to a water front view, eating dinner by candle-light, they even give every girl/woman a rose at the end of the meal. Heaven? I think so. Be sure to encourage your boyfriend/husband to take you there!

the winner!
look at the amazing food they had displayed out! definitely the winner

Please excuse the time stamp on these pictures, I am still figuring out the features of my new camera and also set the date wrong. {whoops!} Anyways, it was the perfect day and it was finished off so nicely with a clam chowder hunt.

Easy As 1, 2 Detox..

To kick off this new year in style I decided to start a detox for my body because December was filled with seeing friends, going out to bars, eating at fast food restaurants, and of course lots of chocolate and other sugar filled treats. Also I was also not only eating bad, but late at night. This decided to wreck havoc on my body and I found myself going through a bottle of tums in a way too short amount of time.
Detox's can be very tricky to follow and I have tried some before. This time I wanted to custom make my own to ensure that I would stick to it. I did some research on the web and found a couple of detox ideas that I liked, so I combined them then tweaked it to fit my lifestyle.
First of all, set some ground rules for yourself...
For example, I am completely addicted to diet coke, and sugar free redbull. So I this had to go. As well as no drinking alcohol because I felt my body needed a break from it.
Second, decide how long you want to do your detox for. If you want something short and fast then you can make sure to intensify it. I on the other hand feel I need a bit of time in order to clear out my system. I have decided to do this for 10 days. (yikes! i know)
Next you need to decide what kind of juice you want to do. If you are looking for the short, fast, intense detox there is a lemonade diet you can go on. I have tried it, and I must say it's pretty hard to stomach. It involves making your own lemonade with water, pure lemon juice, cayenne pepper and some maple syrup or honey. You drink as many of those as you can for about 3 days. If this is the route you choose, well then good luck to you.
I have decide to do this detox which is "juice 'til dinner" but instead of ordering the $100+ set of juice I am making my own "green smoothies." I am having one for breakfast, one for lunch, then a small snack at 4 o'clock and then a small very heathy dinner. I am also trying to drink as much water as possible in between in order to flush out whatever toxins are in my body.
Also, make sure to drink as much water as you possibly can in order to keep flushing everything out of your system, I keep an aluminum water bottle at my side always.
Here is a recipe for a green juice that I found online. If you would like me to post a sample meal or any appropriate snack, just leave a comment and I would be happy to share :]
Green Juice
Handful (3 oz) spinach
3 medium stalks (3 oz) kale
2 golden delicious apples, cored and quartered
Small handful (1/2 oz) parsley, long stems removed
1 lemon, cut and peeled
1 cucumber, cut into pieces small enough to fit through a juicer

When looking for ingredients to use in your smoothie it is important to pick the dark leafy greens, such as spinach and kale. Then use fruits with flavor and texture to make it more delicious. Some of my favorites are: pineapple, pears, mango, mixed berries or apples.
I hope this proves to be a little helpful for you to kick start any new years resolutions. The key I think to any detox is to make sure you custom tailor it to your lifestyle and what you like otherwise it is going to feel like torture and you probably won't be able to stick to it!

Happy New Year!
