RedBull Ride + Style Competition

As a last minute, spur of the moment, 11am on a Saturday,  Brett "kidnapped" me and took me up to SF to watch this RedBull Ride + Style competition. I wasn't really sure what to expect but it was a beautiful day in the city so why not? By the time we got up there, the free style competition was just starting. There was a course set up right in front of the Ferry Building and there was artwork painted on the ramps by local SF artists - very impressive. There were about 30 riders or so who were invited to participate and it was split up into 4 heats. The judges would then pick the top 10 from each heat and let them compete again for the chance to be crowned the winner. As the heats went on, the riders became more impressive. Oh wait, I forgot to mention, this style of riding is called fixed gear, which means you are riding in only one gear and you do not have any brakes. That's right, no brakes my friends, so your feet must keep pedaling if your back tire is spinning and your feet are clipped in for "safety" {at least that's what I'm told.}

Anyway, it was extremely impressive the tricks that these guys could perform while riding fixed, one of the riders {turned out to be the winner!} even managed to do a back flip over the big ramp. Pretty impressive if you ask me. We stayed for the entire competition and were in awe of these guys. They were just all lucky that the weather was so warm and beautiful to allow this event to take place, because San Francisco weather has a mind of its own, that is for certain. I actually took about 80 pictures that day, some not so impressive and others were pretty amazing. I am sharing with you some of my favorites from the afternoon.

{note: these pictures were all taken by me and are not to be used elsewhere without any written permission, thanks!}

having your cake.. and eating it too!

This past weekend was my daddy's birthday, well Sunday was his actual birthday but the whole weekend seemed to be preparation for the big day. Friday was a bunch of running around to get all the supplies and presents, Saturday evening was spent baking the cake and then Sunday morning was decoration time! Just wait until you see this amazing cake. I found the idea from this fabulous blog called Making Life Delicious. My dad absolutely loves m&m's and kit kat's so I knew this would be the perfect {not to mention different} cake to make for him.

The cake was relatively easy to make. I wanted to keep it on the smaller side so instead of the 9inch pans, I used {what i thought was 8} but they were actually more like 7 inches. So with a little modification I made 4 smaller 7inch cakes. {the 4th was an extra in case something went wrong!} I cut the tops off so that it was perfectly flat and then made my own frosting to put on between each layer. Then I frosted all around the edges and kind of made the frosting on the edges pretty thick to make sure the kit kat's stayed in place. Then once the kit kat's were perfectly lined up all the way around, I just put about a bag and a half of m&m's on top. This was definitely an easy and fun cake to make and I hope in the future I will have more celebrations to make this for!

Have any of you made a cake like this before, or something else different? I would love for you to share your stories!

pink v. blue: the face off

This past weekend I went to a good friend of mine from high school's baby shower / gender reveal! This is actually baby #2 for the happy couple as they have a boy who is about 2 1/2. The shower was so amazing and had so many cute decorations. Since it was a gender reveal the theme was "Pink vs. Blue Face Off" and everyone was to show their "team spirit" and dress in either pink or blue to support their team. When you first arrived, you were to cast your vote and then pick up pink or blue beads to wear. Then there were tons of delicious snacks, depending on what you were craving ;). Then finally the big moment arrived and they ripped the tape off the box to find out what color balloons came out....

What do you think? Boy or Girl.. Scroll to the bottom to find out!

a few from easter

Here are a few shots from this Easter weekend. As I mentioned before, I was going to take a stab at making the "peep topiary", it turned out not too bad right? I am pretty pleased with the outcome. This weekend was filled with visiting old friends, preparing for Easter, soaking up some sunshine {it's currently raining.. again} and eating far too many Cadbury chocolate eggs {see below} than one should actually consume. Oh and jelly beans, yes sad to say but many jelly beans were harmed in the process.

om, nom nom nom nom!

easter decorations

Hello friends! Easter week is upon us so I have started to prepare some Easter decorations earlier in the week. I found some pretty amazing free print out's and got so excited with all the endless possibilities. Do you have any Easter traditions you would like to share?

I am also going to try my best and attempt to make this very festive, Easter "Peeptopiary" for the table. {wish me luck!} and make sure to check back in a few days to see how it turned out!
